PLAN DESIGN DELIVER

Our Vision

To deliver a modernised irrigation system that will help secure the economic, social and environmental future of northern Victoria.

Welcome to the Northern Victoria Irrigation Renewal Project website.

NVIRP has accomplished a great deal of structural change in its short eighteen months of operation. Already the irrigation delivery system looks different as we continue to automate the backbone channels in the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District, which stretches over a massive area from Yarrawonga through to Swan Hill. The automated gates inserted into the channel system are measuring water flow much more accurately and although irrigators’ allocation is less than desired NVIRP is capturing water savings through this upgraded water delivery system.

Stage 1 of this project is funded by the Victorian Government ($600m), Melbourne Water ($300m) and Goulburn-Murray Water ($100m) and for Stage 2 the Commonwealth Government has agreed to fund this stage subject to due diligence processes. 80 per cent of the water savings will stay in northern Victoria to be shared by irrigators and to be available for the rivers and wetlands and 20 per cent will go to Melbourne via the Sugarloaf Pipeline.

The information on this website will be updated regularly, so thank you for your interest in the project and please return again soon.
