Irrigation Modernisation - Project Objectives

NVIRP will deliver the project against some significant goals; goals that will keep Victoria at the leading edge of productive and sustainable resource management.

Guiding Core Principles

The project will adhere to the following seven core guiding principles which formed part of the Food Bowl Modernisation Project Steering Committee report that was endorsed by the Victorian Government on 30 November 2007.

Goulburn Murray Irrigation District (GMID) Background

One third of Stage 1 water savings will be for the environment, some of which will be stored in Lake Eildon. This water will be released into stressed rivers and streams when required. This means that 75GL of saved water losses can be used at a time when it is most needed and provides maximum benefit for the environment.

Key Stakeholders for Irrigation Northern Victoria

NVIRP is a massive undertaking for which collaboration is a key consideration. In order to achieve the objectives of the modernisation program, a strong partnership is required with Goulburn-Murray Water, irrigators and all other key stakeholders to maximise the benefits the project will bring to the region.

Twelve Operating Principles

NVIRP and Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) have agreed on 12 operating principles to guide their working relationship. These principles detail how each will work together and engage with customers and local communities. These principles provide greater confidence and certainty for irrigators and their communities.

Board of Directors

NVIRP is an independently governed authority led by an independent, skills-based Board that has been appointed for a two-year term. The Board is composed of seven members with a broad range of experience infrastructure and business development.
