In late October 2008, Governor General Quentin Bryce AC visited the Goulburn Valley during the second stage of her Murray Darling Basin communities’ tour.

At the invitation of NVIRP’s Chairman Richard Guy, the Governor General undertook a two hour tour of the Ardmona district viewing first-hand new solar powered automated channel gates, plastic lined channels and tomatoes growing in a hydroponic glass house. Following the tour, the Governor General commented that she had seen people working hard to achieve greater efficiencies in water handing and in every aspect of water management. She said NVIRP’s new developments were geared to greater efficiencies because every drop of water is precious and that is what they are focused on.
